So far, Remarques piece seems quite interesting to me. His book truely elaborates on the the realities of war that you don't tend to hear detailed in many other books. What I really enjoyed about his inscription was that he compared and contrasted the way animals can be typically and emotionally relevant towards human perceptions than others can. He did this without using precise annotations, but instead used his experiences to detail my point. For example, from the book Detering says, "I tell you it is the vilest baseness to use horses in the war"(Remarque64).
If you go to this link http://www.animalsinwar.org.uk/index.cfm?asset_i=1422 then you will get a glimpse of how animals can be used in war as well as how horses were used in relation to those in the book.
